Mexico sends guards to stop migrants as violence soars

Cornered by U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat of punitive tariffs on Mexican exports to the United States, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador sent the newly created National Guard to stop undocumented migrants from crossing the US-Mexico border. But in his attempt to placate Donald Trump, Lopez Obrador’s use of the National Guard for immigration duties has angered many who say they would be better suited and are much more needed in efforts to stem a tide of rising violence in border towns like Ciudad Juárez.
