WELLINGTON, Oct 6 (Reuters) - The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) said on Wednesday that Christian Hawkesby has been appointed as the deputy governor and will start his new role from January 2022.

Hawkesby, who is currently the assistant governor, will step into the deputy governor role which is currently held by Geoff Bascand, who is leaving the Reserve Bank in January after 8 years, RBNZ said in a statement.

Hawkesby will also take over leadership of the Financial Stability functions from early 2022, it said.
